Description

Court Vision is an unfiltered look at the real experiences of modern-day female athletes and women beyond the wins and stats. Hosted by Madison Ligon, former D1 and pro volleyball player, coach, and founder of Pegasus Athletics Club, this podcast dives into the stories that rarely get airtime in sports. Each episode blends honest reflection, lessons learned, and conversations with friends about what it actually takes to navigate sports, identity, and life as a female athlete. We’ll talk about purpose over pressure, building confidence, trusting your gut, and finding your voice on and off the court. Whether you’re an athlete, coach, parent, or just someone who loves the game, Court Vision is here to remind you that you’re more than your stats and more than the outcome of a season. Ep. 002 | Sportsmanship → A Lost Art in Youth Volleyball?
2025/10/24
Court Vision – Ep. 002 | Sportsmanship → A Lost Art in Youth Volleyball? Welcome to Court Vision. I’m Madison Ligon, founder of Pegasus Athletics Club, coach, and former D1 athlete. This podcast is an unfiltered look at the real experiences of modern-day athletes and women beyond the wins and stats. In Court Vision's 2nd episode, I discuss my realization that somewhere along the way, cheers and chants in youth volleyball stopped being about celebrating the team's successes and started being about mocking our competition's mistakes. No one really talks about it, but it’s definitely gotten worse. And honestly? It’s bad for the sport. When we normalize chants that tear other teams down, we’re teaching young athletes that to win, you have to step on someone else to get there. We’re teaching them that mistakes are something to be feared, when mistakes are actually how we grow. I understand that people will inevitably make the argument that heckling is just a part of playing sports & that I'm being dramatic, but where’s the humanity in that? You can want to win and be a good human. Competing and being kind are not mutually exclusive. At PAC, we've draw a hard line. Every time we cheer, it’s about us. What we’re doing right. How we’re growing together. We let our play speak for itself. We can’t control what other teams, parents, spectators, or refs do. Heckling will always exist, but we can choose to do better. To remind our girls that they can chase their dreams without losing their empathy. The goal of Court Vision's 2nd episode is simple. Make youth volleyball enjoyable for everyone. Parents, players, coaches... We all pour so much into this. Being mean is a waste of energy and a distraction. Let's work together to leave a legacy that makes volleyball a better space for current players & future generations. One built on respect, connection, and joy for the game. Court Vision is about pulling back the curtain → honest stories, lessons from the court, and reflections on building a healthier, more sustainable athlete culture. Court Vision – Ep. 001 | Why This Podcast Exists → From Losing Volleyball to Finding My Voice Welcome to Court Vision. I’m Madison Ligon, founder of Pegasus Athletics Club, coach, and former D1 athlete. This podcast is an unfiltered look at the real experiences of modern-day athletes and women beyond the wins and stats. In this first episode, I share my own journey. From growing up in Texas, competing at LSU and LMU, to facing a career-ending injury that forced me to question everything I thought I knew about success. Through it all, I uncovered the cracks in our sports system, and the deeper mental, emotional, and cultural realities athletes face.
