Q&A: Eph 2:11-18 - Ordinances v. Law? Christian subcultures, welcoming outsiders, and invisible walls
2026/09/28
The B-squad is back! (okay just the B-host...)
Michael and Will discuss his sermon on how Jesus tears down walls of hostility and calls Fellow Citizens to do the same in welcoming those outside the faith. They also discuss: modern Christian 'ordinances,' whether Will has ever experienced Christian subculture, the political divide in America, a life that loves people outside the church, the Christian climate of Denver, becoming familiar with sharing faith, family systems theory, tearing down invisible walls, and 'The Last of the Mohicans.'

Q&A: Eph 2:1-10 - Proclaiming the Gospel, what are good works? Jesus v. Paul, the prince of the power of the air, & impersonating Chris Farley
2026/09/23
On this episode of Q&A:
Michael opens with a recent story of God’s grace and why we preach the gospel week in, week out at Fellow Citizens, and how the Spirit of God is at work in individual lives. Then Ruth and Michael dig into the idea of good works: what they are and how much we should be doing in our lives; why Michael doesn’t like to use Greek words in his sermons, ordinary miraculous, the difference between legalism and piety, a different use for the word ‘governor,’ how scoffers prefer Jesus over Paul, Jesus on the Pauline concepts of sin and death, Ruth sounding like Chris Farley telling Paul McCartney “that’s awesome!” how to pronounce Reiki (not ouija), making observations in the Bible, the different terms used for Satan in Scripture, and using the name of the movie in the movie.

Q&A: Eph 1:15-23 - The Ascension of Jesus, the full scope of the gospel, "name" in Hebrew, Christ's victory, Salvation History, & Predestination (revisited)
2026/09/17
On this episode of Q&A we discuss how the Ascension of Jesus is a core aspect of the gospel as is his triumph and victory. ALSO discussed: Ruth's desire for Will to preach more, Paul’s word vomit throughout Eph 1, praying through this passage, predestination as good news for secular Denverites to join the story of redemption, the difference between ages of human history, the present rule and reign of Christ, Hebrews 4, Jesus resurrection being more than reanimation, Ruth’s love for Old Testament references but not pop culture references, Michael answering the phone in the middle of the podcast, God directing the course of human history, God as a sovereign, good, and just God; and how the gospel is for more than just religious people.

Q&A: Eph 1:3-14 - Predestination, our inheritance, unifying the church, Love is Blind, & how to soak in the waterfall of Eph 1
2026/09/09
It's Pastor Willy B's first time on the Q&A podcast, but you can find his old Youtube channel reviewing beers HERE.
On this episode, the two pastors of Fellow Citizens rightly predict that someone would submit a question about predestination and being chosen/not chosen by God, and how this topic is actually meant to comfort and not confuse us. Then they talk about how our adoption in Christ leads to a ton of inheritance, the practicalities of experiencing unity in a church, the difference between unity and uniform, the challenge of modern fragmentation (particularly in the terrible Denver dating scene), turning to our Creator to understand ourselves, how recording this podcast would be better over a pint, practical ways to meditate on Ephesians 1, and the B-sides of Will's sermon.

Q&A: Ephesians Preview MEGA POD
2026/09/02
Welcome to "Season 2" of the Q&A pod where we'll be following the new sermon series in Ephesians at Fellow Citizens.
This week’s pod is a bit different as Michael and Ruth take a high-level look at the Epistle to the Ephesians. We introduce Ephesians by asking why this book and why right now, what's the historical background, major themes, and hopes for Fellow Citizens? Throughout, we talk about things like the meaning of ontology (not AUNTology), how to structure a church, the significance of “in Christ,” the location of ancient Ephesus, it’s cultural & religious context, the significance of letters written primarily to Gentiles vs. Jews, how Michael can’t stop talking about ouija boards for some reason, the importance of unity, power, and love in the church, the divide in Ephesians between ch. 1-3 and 4-6, cosmic spiritual powers in the unseen realm, Christians in Georgia vs. Denver, Christian ethics as gospel witness, and the call for Fellow Citizens to have a High Christology.

Q&A: Matt 7:24-29 - Discerning emotions, building on (real) sand? Is suffering always testing? and Ruth’s thoughts on the Sermon on the Mount
2026/08/25
On this episode of Q&A we discuss if our emotional responses are good evidence of our foundation in Christ, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, our children noisily playing whilst we are recording, the sinking sand of religion, the (sometimes) stupidity of coastal property, why there’s no lava insurance, how suffering is never without purpose but isn’t always discipline, Romans 5:1-5, the grand omniscience of God, why this passage is such a great conclusion to the Sermon on the Mount, Ruth’s gift of asking questions, true Christian maturity, and Michael’s final charge to be doers of the word so we can see the more of Jesus' kingdom come in our day.

Q&A: Matt 7:21-23 - kingdom of God ≠ 'going to heaven,' dif between spiritual fruit and spiritual power? Biblical v. Systematic theology, and why East of Eden?
2026/08/17
On this episode of Q&A we discuss how Jesus' framework of the kingdom of heaven is more than just going to heaven when we die and provides context for the entire sermon on the mount. We also talk about Ruth's deepened understanding of the narrow gate since being pregnant, whether miraculous works are the same as good fruit, woo woo spirituality, Buddhist Sweat lodges, the connection between Matthew 7 and Genesis 3, the difference between biblical and systematic theology, self-deception, and how Michael doesn't have a great understanding of the Tree of Life.

Q&A: Matt 7:15-20 - modern prophets? Bad people with good fruit, ignorance vs. deception, false prophecy today, & cults going mainstream
2026/08/10
On this episode of Q&A we discuss Jesus’ teaching on false prophets and how we are supposed to think about prophets/prophecy today. We also address fallen pastors, hellfire street preachers, bad people who have had a good influence, how Jesus has the sickest (Old Testament) references, Michael's mediocre definition of literary ‘foils,’ how ancient false prophecy and modern false teaching are basically the same, how religion adds to the gospel, if Peter wrote Jude, the problem with denying judgment, sheep's clothing (literally) in The Odyssey, online ‘watchdog’ ministries, and how everyone seems to be joining a cult.
