Insidious: Out of the further. Dentists, grapefruits, and bad decisions
2026/10/23
This week we venture into Insidious: Out of the Further, and beg the question, how has a series built on the fear of the unknown become so hellbent on explaining everything that happens in such excruciating detail? Plus, the cringiest character of the year, Lin Shaye takes her place as the Dr. Loomis of modern times, and a dentist scene so disgusting it made all of us retch just talking about it.
After the break we're digging into the landmark re-release of Ken Russel's The Devils, preview Shudder's latest, The Cycle, talk about our 19th anniversary happening this month and look ahead at our 20th year. 🎙️Full audio episode also available wherever you listen to podcasts.

Other Mommy Review: A Flawed Horror Movie Worth Defending?
2026/10/16
The internet has made up its mind about Other Mommy, but the BGH crew has a more complicated take. We debate Rob Savage’s ambitious, occasionally overstuffed horror film, from Jessica Chastain’s uncanny dual performance and the increasingly surreal set pieces to the emotional story underneath it all.
Is the movie’s breakneck pace undermining its ideas about grief, infidelity, and the responsibilities of parenthood? Or is there something genuinely affecting beneath the chaos? We get into the film’s most disturbing moments, its complicated ending, and why its flaws don’t necessarily erase what works.
After the break we talk hype-level for the Crystal Lake series, Eric reports back after ONLY watching the final episode of Carrie, we look at the most searched costumes of 2026 and talk about early buzz on Clayface being a hard R horror movie.

Carrie at 50: The Movie That Never Stopped Being Relevant
2026/10/09
Carrie turns 50, and Bloody Good Horror is going back to Brian De Palma's 1976 classic to figure out why it still hits so hard.
Based on Stephen King's first published novel, Carrie became a landmark horror film thanks to Sissy Spacek's unforgettable performance, Piper Laurie's terrifying turn as Margaret White, and De Palma's wildly inventive visual style. But watching it again 50 years later reveals a movie that is doing much more than building toward that infamous prom sequence.
We dig into the film's complicated relationship with sexuality, religious repression, female power, bullying, and coming of age, and discuss why this version of Carrie can actually feel more relevant today than some of its more recent adaptations. We also break down De Palma's use of split screens, color, camera movement and visual language, and why the movie's slow burn makes the chaos of its final act so effective.

Other Mommy Director Rob Savage Interview: Jessica Chastain is "mind-blowingly terrifying"
2026/10/06
Director Rob Savage joins Bloody Good Horror to discuss Other Mommy, his terrifying adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel hitting theaters October 9th.
Savage talks about translating the book’s cosmic horror to the screen, creating scares in broad daylight, and finding new ways to keep audiences from trusting the visual language of horror. He also digs into the film’s complicated ideas about motherhood, family, and the different versions of ourselves that exist beneath the surface.
Plus, the star power and sheer terror that Jessica Chastain brings to her dual role, why they ultimately moved away from using prosthetics to distinguish her characters, and how she was able to create some of the film’s most disturbing moments using nothing but her face and body. As Savage puts it, she is the film’s “secret weapon.”
Other Mommy arrives October 9.

Scream Turns 30: How It Conquered Pop Culture by Breaking the rules
2026/10/02
Scream turns 30, and Bloody Good Horror takes a deep dive into the movie that reshaped not only the horror genre, but wider pop culture. We look at the lightning in a bottle created by the joining of fright master Wes Craven with the voice of 90s youth, Kevin Williamson, how it brilliantly skewers the "rules" of the horror film while flipping them on their head, and how the cinematography, production design and score take the whole endeavor way over the top.
Plus, a look at the 90s cultural context that Scream stepped into, why it was the Obsession of its day, and how the sequels have largely failed to capture the magic that made the original so special.
After the break, we've got a packed round of horror news, including our conversation with the newly announced SAW director, Zach Cregger launching strays at Shudder, Resident Evil RT reviews going crazy and more.

Mike P. Nelson on Beware Boiúna, Filming in the Amazon, and Finding His Voice as a Filmmaker | Interview
2026/09/28
Director Mike P. Nelson joins us to talk about Beware Boiúna, his new theatrical horror film set deep in the Amazon rainforest.
Mike discusses the real-world environmental conflict that inspired the film, the folklore behind Boiúna, and the decision to create a fictional indigenous tribe. He also talks about balancing mythology, science, and mystery, and why leaving certain questions unanswered can make a monster more frightening.
We go behind the scenes of one of the film's biggest creative choices: actually shooting in the Amazon. Mike talks about the heat, bugs, flash floods, disappearing sets, and unpredictable environment that became an unexpected part of the filmmaking process. He also explains how putting the actors directly into that environment shaped their performances.
Finally, Mike reflects on his evolution as a filmmaker and the personal themes that continue to find their way into his movies. He talks about letting go of the idea that he needed to have a carefully defined filmography, bringing his own voice to unexpected projects, and finding the freedom to simply follow the work.
Since this interview was recorded, Mike has been announced as the director of the next SAW film.
Beware Boiúna opens in theaters October 2nd, 2026.

Buddy (2026) — The Creepy Horror of Happy Children’s TV
2026/09/11
What if your favorite childhood TV show was actually a nightmare?
This week, Bloody Good Horror reviews "Buddy", the bizarre new horror movie from "Too Many Cooks" creator Casper Kelly. What begins as a seemingly innocent children’s program quickly becomes a surreal nightmare involving an orange unicorn, trapped children, looping episodes, and a world where happiness is mandatory.
But "Buddy" is much more than just a creepy kids’ show. We dig into the film’s use of liminal horror, childhood nostalgia, emotional manipulation, abuse and compliance, and the unsettling idea of what happens when the cheerful veneer of children’s entertainment starts to crack.
We also discuss Keegan-Michael Key’s wildly unsettling performance, the film’s bizarre supporting characters, its increasingly disturbing mythology, and an ending that suddenly blows the entire world of *Buddy* wide open.
Is "Buddy" a brilliant expansion of Casper Kelly’s "Too Many Cooks" aesthetic, or does its surreal second half start to lose the thread?
PLUS, Dr. Loomis gets horny in the new Halloween game and no one's happy about it, and Zach Cregger finds out what it's like to direct a film in a long running series... in the worst way possible.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma: A Horror Movie About Liberation
2026/09/04
We are wildly In love with Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma... and completely divided. Director Jane Schoenbrun's follow-up to "I Saw the TV Glow" is a dense, sexy, gorgeous, titillating quantum leap of a film that asks the question; where is the line between being scared and being turned on?
We discuss sexual awakenings, queer trauma and liberation, the true meaning and importance of fandom, and the film's oddly satisfying use of "Long December" by the Counting Crows.
Plus, the artistry of the "snow master", ties to "Backrooms", and the real life Hollywood parallels.
