Why does it sometimes look like people can disobey God and still succeed? In Numbers 20, Moses directly disobeyed God. He struck the rock instead of speaking to it. Yet something surprising happened: water still came out abundantly. That uncomfortable contradiction raises questions almost every believer eventually faces. Why does someone with bad character sometimes prosper?Why can dishonest people succeed?Why can someone faithfully do what is right and still struggle?Does obedience really matter when wrong sometimes seems to work? Using the story of Moses, Psalm 73, Peter, Jonah, and examples from ministry, this sermon examines the danger of turning biblical principles into rigid formulas. God’s blessing is not always an endorsement of someone’s character. Sometimes what looks like approval is actually God’s patience. Sometimes God is helping other people in spite of a flawed messenger. And sometimes we simply have not reached the end of the story yet. “God always pays, but not always by Friday.” If you are discouraged because you have been doing right without seeing the results you expected, keep your heart right and keep trusting God. If things are going well while you know something in your life is wrong, don’t mistake God’s patience for His approval. Repent and fix it. Can you really know that you’re saved?
