19098 Beethoven/Bernstein: Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Ode to Freedom" Concert
2023/12/31
Four soloists, three choirs, and members of six top orchestras, representing the two German States and the four Occupying Power States of post-war Berlin, participated: musicians from orchestras of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, from Dresden, Leningrad (St Petersburg), London, New York, and Paris. Three choirs supported Bernstein at his great Berlin Ode To Freedom concert: the Bavarian Radio Chorus; members of the Radio Chorus of what had been East Berlin; and the Children’s Choir of the Dresden Philharmonie. The solo quartet featured June Anderson, soprano; Sarah Walker, mezzo-soprano; Klaus König, tenor; and Jan-Hendrik Rootering, bass. When the musicians gathered in Berlin for the concert residents were chiseling away at the hated Berlin Wall. Leonard Bernstein also carved a chunk of the wall and sent it to his family in New York.Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]

19125 Suppe: Pique Dame (The Queen of Spades) - Excerpts
2023/01/31
Pique Dame (The Queen of Spades) is an operetta in two acts by Franz von Suppé to a German-language libretto very loosely based on Alexander Pushkin's 1834 short story "The Queen of Spades". The author of the libretto is S. Strasser (probably Suppé's second wife Sofie Strasser). Pique Dame was a revised version of Suppé's 1862 operetta Die Kartenschlägerin ("The Fortune Teller") and premiered in June 1864 at the Thalia Theater in Graz. The work is primarily known today for its overture which remains a popular concert piece.Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]
Suppe: Mozart - Incidental Music
2023/01/30
Suppe is sadly best known for a handful of “lollipops”, mostly excerpts from his operettas, but fingers crossed that this release will kindle a little more than passing interest in his substantial output. Suppe wrote incidental music for the popular play Mozart in 1854. With nearly an hour of music, the incidental music is far more than scene-change music but actually written to accompany specific passages of dialogue and action (many of which are scripted in the score) — effectively a film score before there was even such a form of entertainment!Tracklist:OvertureAct 1 MusicAct 2 MusicAct 3 MusicAct 4 MusicOverture to "A Trip to Africa"Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]
19111 Suppe: Boccaccio
2023/01/15
In early-Renaissance Florence, the erotic novellas of the poet Boccaccio cause a stir and the locals are divided into the female fans of his scandalous tales and their jealous husbands. A plot is hatched by the husbands to chase Boccaccio from the city and have him locked up. But Boccaccio has other plans, including one to win the hand of the Duke's daughter Fiammetta, which he finally succeeds in doing after finding favour with the Duke. Suppé's finest operetta.Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]

19096 Franck - Psyche
2023/01/04
In July of 1997, conductor Kurt Masur and actress Marthe Keller delivered a performance of César Franck's Psyché unlike any other in recorded history. Expanding upon Masur's vision, the sublime and rarely-heard symphonic poem for chorus and orchestra was augmented by Keller's immersive narration. Her words, delivered between movements with powerful eloquence, are sourced directly from Metamorphoses by the ancient writer Apuleius, which tells the captivating story of Psyché and Cupid. It was this tale, filled with eroticism, alchemy, and scandal, that inspired Franck's soaring composition.Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected] album is broadcasted with the permission of Crossover Media Music Promotion (Zachary Swanson and Amanda Bloom).
19097 Vivaldi - The Great Venetian Mass
2023/01/01
Casual browsers happening on this release by the venerable early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants and director Paul Agnew may wonder why they have never heard of Vivaldi’s Great Venetian Mass, and some of those will note that an RV (Ryom-Verzeichnis) catalog number is not present anywhere. It is because there is no Great Venetian Mass; what is recorded here is a creation by Agnew, assembled from other works. Some of these were mass sections, while others were contrafacta (“retextings”). Agnew’s premise is that Vivaldi would often have been called upon to provide full settings of the Catholic mass, but none have survived. Therefore, he might have cobbled them together as needed from music he had already written. Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]

Great selections!
Full-length pieces and operas with a little talk. Nothing intrusive like YouTube, which places ads in the middle of a movement.

Too many ads
I’m just getting into a movement and it’s interrupted by a loud ad. Keep all the ads at the beginning or end!
