192: Get Rid of the Word "Fear" - with Dr. Edith Eger and Dr. Marianne Engle
2022/06/09
A native of Hungary, Dr. Edith Eger was a teenager in 1944 when she and her family were sent to Auschwitz during WWII. Despite overwhelming odds, Edith survived the Holocaust and ultimately came to the US with her husband where she went on to graduate with a Ph.D. from the University of Texas and became an eminent psychologist. Today, she maintains a busy clinical practice and lectures around the world — including amazing interviews with Oprah, Brene Brown, and more.
Today, we’re fortunate to have her joined by her extraordinary daughter, child psychologist Dr. Marianne Engle, who co-authored just released a new edition of her beloved book The Gift — a follow up of her NY Times Bestseller The Choice. The original edition launched in Sept 2020 to rave reviews for its warm and insightful approach to dealing with life's most complex challenges — and provides a hands-on guide that gently encourages readers to change the thoughts and behaviors that may be keeping them imprisoned in the past. This new edition brings her fresh perspective and nuanced understanding of processing deep issues with children.
If you’ve had a hard time moving forward from a challenging past or have in any way felt stuck in a victim mentality, this episode is for you.

191: The Blessing of Not Knowing
2022/06/02
This week’s solo episode finds Dave diving into a conversation about the blessings of not knowing how things are going to turn out. For so many of us, our dreams, relationships or identities take turns we could have never expected, especially when we make big leaps into new spaces. But, in so many cases, it was not knowing how things were going to go that gave us permission to start the journey in the first place. Had insight into how some of our dreams were ultimately destined to die, we would have kept ourselves from fully living to avoid the pain in the journey. Dave shares how not knowing how his adoption journey, departure from Disney, or the end of his marriage was a big blessing in taking steps forward that have been instrumental to his growth.

Our next Get Fit 60-Day Challenge starts May 9 with a week-long pre-party just kicking off and Heidi and I would love to have you join! If you've been looking for a community online that invites you to not only come as you are but celebrates you for being exactly who you are and where you’re at in your journey, this is absolutely for you. This community has become my safe, reliable soft landing on the days I struggle as well as accountability cheerleaders when I get on a roll. As much as people come to get into better shape, they stay because of feeling part of something unlike anything they’ve ever experienced.
Everyone has access to daily workout programs with individual tracks that you can jump in and out of: in the gym or at home, programs for men and women, at every fitness level with modifications to meet you where you are. Beyond the physical challenges, the weekly lives also feature experts in nutrition, dance, breathwork, cooking, yoga, and more, all of whom interact and answer questions in the community regularly. This celebration of what our bodies can do is equally supported by creating space for the mental and emotional components of transformation, all in a private Facebook community that loves and supports you as you are, right where you are. For me, in this window of life, this community has become the only place I interact online because of the way it pours positively into me and every other person there, every single time I’m there. Heidi and I would love to see you become part of this amazing family as well.

BONUS: The Pressure of Venturing Into a New Space
2022/05/09
Today's bonus episode is a continuation of last week's conversation between Heidi and Dave, where the end of their conversation was interrupted by the urgency to get to an airport. This last piece felt important enough to drop it into the feed this week to finish the thought. There's something as humans that ends up happening when we venture into a new space where something in the environment is different than it was before. That self-doubt, the negative voices that live inside of us, start chirping as we get closer to the event. Sometimes outside voices join that chorus and have us start operating in ways that are totally disconnected from how we'd normally hope to approach that new level.
Hopefully, you find this episode helpful or at least a little bit interesting. Enjoy!

185: Make Regret Your Resource
2022/04/21
This week on Rise Together, Dave is talking about regret. If you are someone who has let regrets overwhelm or even hijack your mental wellbeing, Dave invites you to try and see regret through a different lens. What if a regret was a resource, that if you were able to tap into it, could afford you the learning and the growth and the agency to have a richer, fuller experience.
Rarely will you regret a spontaneous decision to be intentional in spending time with the people that you love. And if there's someone who hasn't reached out to you, someone you've not been connected to, even if it's just over a face time or a quick text, please don't take for granted that there will always be tomorrow or always be next week that they can still receive that message.
