This episode is a recording of a journal club that was done in our OT Graphically Library Membership on The Current Evidence for Sensory Processing. We discuss an article titled Evaluating Sensory Integration/Sensory Processing Treatment: Issues and Analysis by Camarata, Miller, and Wallace from 2020, including how to put the information gained into our clinical practice despite the barriers.

In this episode, I discuss what evidence we have as occupational therapists for creating effective home programs. In addition, I share about the barriers to this, with a specific focus on families and working with the pediatric population.

I walk through an example of what practice-based evidence can look like, and give resources to share about specific assessments that can help track and measure specific interventions.

Dr. Jen Weaver, Ph.D., OTR/L, CBIS is an occupational therapy professor at Colorado State University. She focuses on translational science specific to measurement and assessments as it relates to traumatic brain injury. Learn more about how Dr. Weaver is in the process of making measurements more clinically meaningful to utilize for OT practitioners.

Knowledge translation is a relatively new area due to the new problem of having too much research. Burnout is a major issue among healthcare professionals even before the Covid-19 pandemic. Healthcare professionals know this is a problem but what interventions are being studied to help. I give a snapshot of some studies out there right now that are showing promising results for preventing and healing burnout.
