To be frank, I didn’t expect this podcast to be so profound!  When I invited SeedSigner on to talk about his project, I was hoping to discuss all the cool technical aspects, his ideas for the future and Bitcoin 2022. While we touched on all of these awesome things, what I found really compelling in our conversation was the guiding principles of the project SeedSigner highlighted.  Having access to Bitcoin, an open monetary network that does not debase your wealth, is a human right. Many countries or jurisdictions may stifle the bitcoin industry, making it impossible for some people to acquire hardware wallets that are otherwise common in the world. This project is an example of open-source software and engineering coming together to provide ever increasing access to Bitcoin.  SeedSigner highlighted the importance of providing access to custody solutions that prioritize the DIY, verifiable and transparent aspects of hardware and software. While he did say that the project could potentially some day have a second form that would increase scalability and minimize self assembly, there are no solid plans for this now, as their full attention remains on the DIY side of things.  One thing that stuck out to me from the conversation was his highlighting of the importance of fungibility and privacy. The two go hand in hand — if certain UTXOs are being labeled as criminal, those UTXOs must be subject to scrutiny that would deem them so. We also discussed if he thought CoinJoin and other similar privacy implementations are the key to this. Of course, I can’t help but ask our current guests about Bitcoin 2022 — especially considering SeedSigner will be speaking there! At Bitcoin 2022, SeedSigner expressed his desire to continue to discuss his project with other people, but also, to finally catch up on all the other projects and happenings in the industry that seem to be flying by. I felt truly lucky having had a conversation with Texas Slim on the food supply, bitcoin, and the Beef Initiative. It's almost as if I’m privy to a revolution quietly growing amongst our communities; a food revolution. As people’s eyes are opened in regards to the centralization of our money supply, so too will their eyes open in regards to the centralization of the food supply, Slim explained. It was his own journey down the bitcoin rabbit hole that coincided with his journey down the food rabbit hole. After learning about how he can connect ranchers to consumers, and how that can improve not only community relations, but eliminate the regression in our food supply — it became his mission. Bitcoiner Brian Harrington talked about how you can limit your exposure to fiat, bring Bitcoin into your community and plan for the future. Hyperbitcoinization is happening in real time. For fiat, the end is nigh. And no one explains this better than Brian Harrington. For him, Bitcoin is a lifestyle. Every day, the actions he takes center around furthering Bitcoin. Brian and I discussed many interesting topics in this episode of Meet The Plebs, but none are as fascinating to him as the “get on zero” movement. Described as maximally limiting your exposure to fiat usage and holdings, Brian talked about how this movement is a part of making hyperbitcoinization the reality of today. Writing high quality Bitcoin material helps to educate audiences, promote best practices and bring about adoption faster.  Bitcoiners like to read. Something about the knowledge expansion offered by bitcoin is addicting — and in the pursuit of learning, there is no substitute for reading. And for all of the wonderful Bitcoin knowledge and related knowledge we have, it must have been written! As Shawn Amick explained, he takes his writing seriously because it may be people’s first encounter with bitcoin. In our interview, he talked about how reading is the best way for people to learn Bitcoin quickly — and only through effective writing can we provide people with the best information possible.

The last time I talked to a lawyer, it wasn’t this fun. Mark Maraia, author, contributor and now contributor liaison here at Bitcoin Magazine, has incredible insight into various industries that are all impacted by Bitcoin. As he explained, there was a nagging feeling of looming problems and inefficiencies in many of the industries he’d worked in — but it wasn’t until 2020 that he realized bitcoin presents the solution to many of these issues. Mark Goodwin describes his bitcoin initiation, the relationship between energy and bitcoin and more. In a perfect universe, energy could be stored with zero degradation over time, a perfect battery. While the laws of thermodynamics deny this possibility, Bitcoin is the best representation of an entropy resistant monetary system that humans have ever seen. Few explain this as well as Mark Goodwin can, and he did so in our most recent episode of Meet The Plebs, the first on Bitcoin Magazine Live. Competency in any subject can take hard work and dedication. But Bitcoin, being both technically oriented and encompassing so many disciplines, can be especially challenging. I discussed this idea and much more with Chris Alaimo, one of our recent employee additions here at Bitcoin Magazine. His work in multimedia made him a perfect fit for the video side of our magazine, and it was excellent to hear how he first got into bitcoin, lessons learned and what he’s looking forward to.

Art and Bitcoin — both draw in some of the most creative minds in the world. I discussed this and more interesting intersections with Bitcoin Magazine’s PhoenixBTC. We touched on how bitcoin affects time preference, and how Bitcoiners can be more receptive to newcomers to the space.

My conversation with Grant McCarty was one of my favorite pleb interviews I’ve conducted so far. Whether you believe in the power of political advocacy or not, you cannot help but understand and appreciate the passion he obviously has for advancing Bitcoin. In this interview, we discussed what spurred this passion, and how he envisions Bitcoin’s impact on the political world. While particular to the United States, I think everyone can see the benefit of grassroots organization and change McCarty describes in the interview. It was quite compelling, at least to me, to hear from McCarty that the mobilization around the infrastructure bill was well heard by lawmakers. This was a nice change from the often negative perspective on political action in the Bitcoin community at large.

Music is a wonderful thing. Bitcoin, too, is a wonderful thing. Combine them and you have a simply fascinating mixture. One of my favorite people to work with here at Bitcoin Magazine, Pleb Music, discussed this and much more with me in our latest episode of Meet The Plebs. His time in bitcoin has been spent combining two of his passions, and it eventually led to work in the industry. I believe that this combination of passion and professionality is what makes the bitcoin space truly special — every single person working in it is driven by a unique desire to enact change in the world. I can’t help but take pride in the Bitcoin community’s relentless optimism. In many other industries, whether it be through the direct decline of the industry, or a sense of general nihilism that so often accompanies our fiat based world, optimism is not nearly as present. But Bitcoiners wake up each day, ready to work on solutions to the world’s toughest challenges, not in a vain attempt to “save our planet” but in true belief that we are creating the world’s next Golden Age, the best times humanity has ever known. My discussion with Q Ghaemi was a fantastic display of this optimism, as we touched on the potential for Bitcoin to change the world.
